LESSONS
I specialise in teaching beginning to advanced flute, piano, recorder, saxophone and steelpan lessons as well as beginner and therapy harp lessons.
I offer 1:1 lessons as well as group music making opportunities to supplement learning.
I have taught music lessons since 1986 from Primary age to Master’s degree students at Victoria University Wellington, my students have gone on to full time careers as performing musicians, teachers and composers, I have high standards and expect my students to commit to their musical adventure and parents to support them!
For beginning students, lessons focus primarily on learning to listen and play music by ear, read notes and rhythms, developing proper hand position and posture and beginning to develop musical expression and an understanding of theory.
As students’ progress toward the intermediate level, lessons begin to focus more heavily on technique, musicianship and repertoire that includes a variety of genres.
My goal is always to make lessons fun, educational, and highly encouraging, and to help each student achieve success at their own pace of learning.
COST AND PAYMENT
Our first assessment meeting is free, this really helps introduce my approach and gives both parent, student, and teacher an opportunity to get to know each other!
After that, a term of lessons consists of a minimum of 8 X 1:1 practical lessons plus group ensemble/duet/theory lessons as well as mini recitals and preparation for school concerts.
Lessons can be paid termly or monthly and costs:
- 1 Term $350
- Monthly (4 Terms divided by 12 months inclu admin fee) $125
- Payment is always required before a lesson commences, this can be done in term blocks or on a monthly basis at your preference. I do not teach without prior payment.
- Please direct credit - M Titmuss 02 0655 0080160 025
To help with payments I have enabled auto payments in your Kings Music account, just follow the instructions in the link below.
Cancellation Policy
If you decide to withdraw from lessons please advise in writing at least two weeks before the Term begins, (this allows me some time to offer the slot to students on the waiting list and amend the timetable), once a Term has begun there are no refunds possible.
I do not charge by the minute or by the lesson, I found over 30 + years of teaching that this leads to chaos on the part of both parent, school and teacher trying to fit in "make up " lessons and generally leads to a feeling of having missed something when it proves impossible.
Inevitably students occasionally miss a lesson due to ill health or a school event, since most terms are 10 weeks it is highly unlikely your child will drop below the minimum of 8 X 1:1 lessons as I am keen to maintain regular sessions, many years of running my lessons this way enables me to confidently assure you that your child will receive their individual lessons as well as further sessions (these may be scheduled on a different day to their normal lesson slot if required by the school) I just love teaching and creating musical events but remain understanding of the many demands on parents and students in a school environment.
If I am unwell I will contact parents via email.
Private students who take their lessons at the Kings Music Studio can go online and reschedule their lessons using the online calendar booking system.
School students will be notified by email/or direct communication regarding any changes to their lessons.
